Watch him toss a Nissan NV 2500 around a track while explaining weight transfer.

He really makes the most of the script. He’s very charismatic, in addition to be an amazing driver.

Always entertaining. He’s right up there with Chris Harris in my book.

The American Stig?

The Bill Nye of cars?

All I know is, the Nissan NV is the ugliest commercial vehicle I have ever seen. It looks like they took a Titan and grafted an American-style panel van onto it, i.e. the front end is way too long.

And then, to compete with Euro high-roof vans, they added a high roof while altering as little structure as possible.

I hope this is priced under all of its competition, because it looks awful and has archaic American-style powertrain choices (huge gas V6 and V8).

Here’s a video of “Car & Track” (?) Driving a ‘69 Impala around. The body roll is just impressive.

Fun story about weight/load transfer:

I once worked at a RV dealership that had motorhomes available for rental. Sometimes they were booked almost back-to-back, and had to be prepped (basically a PDI) and detailed for the next customer in just a couple of hours.

One of the things that we would sometimes see is that after dumping the holding tanks, the monitor panel would display a false positive when the tank was actually empty. This is a common occurrence in the RV community, especially with the “black water” tank, where solid waste can hang around after the liquid has drained out.

You see, the sides of the tank often have an array of electrical probes. The liquid contents of the tank complete the circuit(s), allowing the user to read tank levels at the press of a button.

There are many products on the market to combat these false readings. You can buy hose attachments that can be stuck right down the trap-less toilet to spray the sides of the tank, and try to get the angle right. You could also use a chemical that helps to break down solid waste and let it sit a while.

We found that chemicals were taking too long, and the blind use of hose attachments yielded hit-and miss results. So the solution that I developed was to empty the tank and fill it back up half-way with water. I then drove around the back lot, gently “swerving” side-to-side to slosh the water around. If you find a good rhythm, you can get the water to splash quite a bit without being too harsh on the vehicle. As long as the waste didn’t get a chance to dry on the probes, this would work on the first try 99% of the time, and the panel would read empty after dumping the water back out.

And it was fun, too. Even though I wasn’t going very fast, it still helped to get a feel for the weight of the RV, and how the suspension was managing it.

Those videos are ridiculously corny it was almost painful in the first ones, buy I’m pretty sure at this point they just decide to own the corn and make some tortillas out of it. It works.
